Lets Stick Together

As alot of you know our School District has been going through alot of turmoil. Smith School .. Columbus .. Arthur S May all up on the chopping block. Everything Is up In the air and we are all on Pins and Needles waiting the final outcomes of our three schools. I made up this page to not Only Help my School which Is Smith School, but to also bring together the rest of our community so we can discuss and keep up with the newest news. My dream goal would be to see ALL schools saved and ALL Teachers and TA'S saved!!! There will be links to websites and also links to our local Senators so you can voice your opinions to them on the chance of our schools closing. There will be more to come .. and I hope to see alot of community suppport In the comming days .. weeks ... and months!!

    Although Smith School has been saved for now, we need to continue to pursue additional funding to save the jobs of teachers and teaching assistants. We need as many people as possible to contact our state and federal senators so that we can keep all of our elementary schools open.

    Please copy/paste the following letter and email it to Senator Chuck Schumer and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand:

    Dear Senator ___________:

    I am writing to ask you to act now to pass a meaningful jobs bill. Please provide additional assistance for the State Fiscal Stabilization Fund. States are facing budget gaps, and our school district in Poughkeepsie, NY faces closure of one of our elementary schools, as well as layoffs of several teachers and teacher's assistants for the 2010-2011 school year. This will be devastating to our children, as class size will increase and students will not get the education to prepare them for secondary school and beyond. Additional funds will keep our school open, keep teachers and teacher's assistants employed and will provide our students with a better education.

    Please help our students and continue in the investment in the foundation of our country, jobs, and education. During tough economic times, we should do no less when it comes to the future of our children.

    To Senator Saland:

    Please pass the state budget. Many districts, including the city of Poughkeepsie, will be laying off teachers and closing schools because our state budget has not been passed in a timely manner. This is having a critical impact on the education of New York students.

    Please remember our children. They deserve the best. Our children deserve a government that puts their needs first. If this budget is not passed before local budgets need to be completed, it will be the innocent children that suffer.

    Poughkeepsie City Schools need your support! Please pass the budget as soon as possible and allow the funds that will keep our schools open!

    I couldnt agree more Marlietta! Thank you very much for posting this stuff and I hope you can pass this site around cause the more that know the better chance we have to save not only our school but to hopefully save other schools AND Our teachers and teachers aides!!!
